Our Specialists Dr Dimitri Yellachich Dimitri Yellachich is Head of Department at Fremantle Hospital Eye Clinic and specialises in vitreoretinal medical and surgical conditions. He is a local graduate who undertook subspecialty training and research in biomedical engineering at Stanford University in the USA and further vitreoretinal training in the United Kingdom. His research at Stanford was in electronic retinal prosthesis and retinal pigment epithelial cell transplantation, looking for novel cures for macular degeneration. Dimitri is also currently Associate Professor and discipline leader of ophthalmology at Notre Dame University and the Western Australian representative on the medical committee of the Macular Degeneration Foundation. Dr Michael Wertheim Michael Wertheim is an ophthalmic surgeon with a primary medical degree from the University of Cape Town. He completed his specialist training in ophthalmology in the United Kingdom with subspeciality fellowship training in the United States and Perth. Michael covers all aspects of general ophthalmology and has a special interest in inflammatory diseases of the eye and uveitis. He has extensive publications in international journals and has presented his research at multiple international meetings. Michael currently holds a consultant position at Fremantle Hospital and is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Notre Dame. Michael operates at the Eye Surgery Foundation in West Perth on all his private patients. He is an HBF preferred provider and charges NO GAP for surgery on these patients. Michael is happy to see uninsured patients requiring surgery as he has access to public operating lists at Bentley and Kaleeya Hospitals. There is no cost to the patient for their surgery at these public hospitals.
